Beginner playing a mixed reality tank game over a coffee table in a living room

You just installed Tank Avenger: Mixed Reality, put the headset on and a ruined city appeared on your own floor. This Tank Avenger beginner guide walks you through what to do first, so your first hours feel like a fun tank war instead of a confusing scramble. Nothing here needs special skill, only a few good habits.

Get the room right before level one

The game places the battlefield on your real floor, table and walls, so it relies on your headset's room setup. The game's support page recommends a clear floor area of roughly 2 × 2 metres, and says a table or coffee table makes a great arena. Before you play:

  • Run Space Setup on your Meta Quest and capture the floor, walls and furniture.
  • Clear cables, shoes and fragile objects from the area.
  • Turn the lights on. A well-lit room is part of the official safety advice.
  • If the arena ever looks out of line with the room, redo the room setup and restart the game.

Spending three minutes here saves you from the most common early frustration, which is a battlefield that does not match your space. If you want the full walkthrough, we cover it in our guide to setting up your play space.

Understand what you are playing

Tank Avenger has 200 levels across four worlds (City, Desert, Jungle and Ice), six weapons and four game modes: Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Juggernaut and Survival. The story is simple. The city has fallen and you are the hero still standing. You can read more on the product page.

You do not have to understand every system on day one. Treat your first session as a tour. Play the opening levels, notice how shots behave, and watch where enemies come from.

Learn how bullets behave

The single most important beginner lesson is that shots bounce. The Normal Gun's bullets bounce once off walls, and the Fast Gun's bounce twice. That means walls are not just cover. They are tools. A shot that cannot reach an enemy directly may reach it after a rebound.

Equally, enemy shells can come back at you from angles you did not expect. When you are new, make a habit of checking where a bullet could go after it hits a wall, not only where it is heading right now.

Spend coins early and on one thing

You earn coins in every battle, and each weapon can be upgraded individually. Beginners often hoard coins "for later" or spread them thinly. A better habit: pick the weapon you use most and upgrade it first. Our upgrade priority guide goes deeper, but the short version is to make one weapon clearly good before you invest in the others.

Move your body, not just your tank

Because the arena sits in your room, physical positioning matters. Stepping to the side gives you a new angle on the battlefield. Crouching lets you look along the floor between blocks. Beginners tend to stand rooted in one spot and wonder why they cannot see enemies behind cover. Take a step. Look around the blocks like you would look around a real obstacle.

Keep it safe, though. Virtual objects do not protect you from real ones, so know where your furniture is before you lunge.

Try each weapon once

Even if you settle on a favourite, test all six early on so you understand what you will face later:

  1. Normal Gun: bullets bounce once.
  2. Fast Gun: rapid fire, two bounces.
  3. Bomb Thrower: covers the battlefield with explosives.
  4. Heat Gun: bullets track the player.
  5. Big Gun: massive explosive bullets.
  6. Triple Gun: three bullets at once.

Knowing what each one does makes it far easier to read an enemy's tank and decide whether to push or retreat.

Play in short sessions

Mixed-reality games can be intense. The official guidance is to play in short sessions, keep the room lit and stop if you feel dizzy or uncomfortable. Twenty to thirty minutes with a break is a good starting rhythm, and progress, coins and upgrades are saved locally on your headset, so you can stop whenever you want.

FAQ

Do I need a lot of space to play Tank Avenger?

Before your first match, clear about 2 × 2 metres of floor, or pick a table or coffee table to play on. If your room is awkward, the level builder lets you design battlefields that fit it.

What should a beginner upgrade first?

Choose the weapon you use most often and upgrade that one first. Coins come from every battle, so you will always have more to spend soon.

Does the game work without passthrough?

No. The game needs passthrough on a Meta Quest headset because the battlefield is placed on your real floor and furniture.

Where is my progress stored?

Your progress, coins, upgrades and any levels you build are kept on the headset, not in an online account. If you uninstall the game, that data goes with it.

You can find the game on the official Meta Horizon Store page.
