Dark room with a figure bending backwards under a web of red laser beams near a wall safe

Every heist film has the same scene. The crew reaches the vault, the lights go down, and a web of red beams appears. Someone has to bend, roll and stretch through it without a sound. If you have ever paused a film and thought "I could do that", this spy game for VR is for you. Laser Thief lets you play that scene for real, in your own room, on a Meta Quest 3 or 3S.

The fantasy it delivers

The pitch of the game is short: your living room becomes the scene of a legendary heist. Somewhere behind the sofa there is a safe, and between you and it is a room full of light you must not touch. Using the headset's passthrough cameras, the game draws laser grids between your actual walls and furniture. Nothing is on rails. Every step, duck and stretch is yours.

That is the detail that separates it from watching a heist on screen. In a film the hero is choreographed. Here, you are the choreography. You decide whether to crawl under the low grid or step over it, and the game responds to exactly what your body does.

The moves of a screen-worthy thief

The game boils the genre down to four physical verbs:

  • Duck: the classic limbo under a chest-height beam.
  • Dodge: a lean, twist or step to slip through a gap.
  • Crawl: the belly-low shuffle when the grid sits at floor level.
  • Reach: the careful grab, with the light kept off your hand.

If you have ever admired the slow-motion limbo of a classic corridor scene, you will recognise all four. The shrinking shield adds the stakes: brush a beam and your shield shrinks, and when it runs out the heist is over.

Seven locations, seven kinds of loot

Heist films love variety, and the game gives you seven worlds. You can sneak through a kitchen that guards its snacks like gold, raid a Viking longhouse for relics and a very heavy helmet, steal luxury cars, bikes and even a plane parked on your sofa, wade through garbage while avoiding poison bubbles, steal designer chairs from a showroom, crack a vault of gold bars and cash bundles with the tightest laser grid yet, and finally enter a Warzone with explosives everywhere. It has the escalating "final job" structure that heist fans love.

Then there is the narrator. Instead of a stoic voiceover, you get a hilarious voice that celebrates your wins and enjoys your mistakes a little too much. The tone is caper comedy, not gritty thriller.

How to play it like a film

You can lean into the theatre of it.

  1. Dim the lights a little, but not so much that headset tracking suffers. Good lighting helps.
  2. Clear a floor area of about 3 × 3 metres (10 × 10 feet) and run Space Setup so beams map to your real walls and furniture.
  3. Start in Story Mode so the narrator and the escalation play out in order.
  4. Save Bomb Mode for the "everything goes wrong" finale: 120 seconds to grab as much loot as you can before the place goes up.
  5. Invite friends to be the crew on the sofa, whispering directions into your ear.

What it is not

It is not a stealth sim with guards and gadgets, and it does not try to be. There are no spy gadgets or story missions beyond what the game describes: Story Mode through seven worlds, Bomb Mode and Free Play. If you want a deep plot, this will feel light. If you want to physically perform the scene you love, it nails it.

It is also physical. Warm up, take breaks and stop if something hurts. Virtual lasers do not protect you from real furniture, so clear the room properly.

Where to get it

Laser Thief is for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S only, since it relies on colour passthrough. Check the game page for more or go straight to the Meta Horizon Store.

FAQ

Yes. Laser Thief has you duck, dodge and crawl through laser grids placed in your real room on Meta Quest 3 and 3S.

Is Laser Thief a stealth game?

It is closer to an active obstacle-and-heist game. The challenge is moving your body through beams without touching them, not hiding from guards.

How many levels does it have?

The game lists 150+ levels across seven worlds, plus a 120-second Bomb Mode and Free Play.

Does it work on Quest 2?

The game is designed for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S because it relies on colour passthrough and room understanding.
