Seven glowing doorways in a row representing the seven worlds of a laser heist

Story Mode is the spine of Laser Thief. You work through seven worlds, heist after heist, with a narrator who has opinions about your technique, and every level is a little harder than the last. This Laser Thief Story Mode guide gives you a way to approach that progression so it feels like improvement rather than a wall.

The route at a glance

The worlds, in order:

  1. Food: a kitchen that guards its snacks like gold.
  2. Viking: a longhouse of relics, horns and a very heavy helmet.
  3. Transport: luxury cars, bikes and a plane.
  4. Garbage: treasure in trash, with poison bubbles.
  5. Furniture: a showroom of designer chairs.
  6. Money: the vault, with the tightest laser grid yet.
  7. Warzone: explosives everywhere and no room for error, the final test.

The game describes each world as having its own loot, its own laser patterns and a difficulty curve that keeps climbing. Across the whole campaign there are 150+ levels in the game.

Pace yourself

The biggest mistake is treating the campaign like a race. The curve climbs steadily, so the skill you build early is what carries you through the end. Play in short sessions, about 20 to 30 minutes, with breaks. The game is physical, and tired legs lose shield.

Skills to build per stage

You do not need to memorise a syllabus, but a rough focus per stage helps:

  • Food and Viking (early): learn the four moves: duck, dodge, crawl, reach. Focus on slow, clean movement.
  • Transport and Garbage (middle): start planning paths and keep moving. Garbage in particular punishes standing still because of the poison bubbles.
  • Furniture and Money (late): precision. The Money vault has the tightest grid yet, so lean on stance and patience.
  • Warzone (final): composure. There is no room for error.

Use Free Play as your gym

When a level stalls you, step out to Free Play for a few random levels with no clock. Then return to Story Mode. This is a better answer to a tough stretch than replaying the same level five times in frustration. See our Free Play warm-up routine.

Track your own progress

Progress lives on the headset itself: unlocked worlds, levels and best scores are kept locally, which means there is nothing to sync and nothing to lose by going offline. The flip side is that removing the game clears that record, so think twice before freeing up storage.

Learn from the narrator

The narrator celebrates your wins and enjoys your mistakes a little too much. Treat the commentary as light feedback rather than a score. If it keeps teasing a certain mistake, ask what is causing it: speed, hands or rising too early.

Keep your setup healthy

Long campaigns mean your room changes. If you move furniture, re-run Space Setup and restart the game. Good lighting helps tracking all the way through.

World-by-world guides

We have individual walkthroughs for each world, starting with the Food world and continuing through to the Warzone finale. For a general overview of the game, see the Laser Thief page, or open the Meta Horizon Store.

Setting goals along the way

A campaign of this length benefits from small, personal goals. Rather than just aiming to finish the next level, give yourself a quality target: finish three levels in a row without shield loss, try a level using only small movements, or beat a level you struggled with last week. Goals like these keep progress motivating even when the difficulty plateaus.

It also helps to mix modes. After a tough Story Mode session, a few relaxed Free Play levels let you enjoy the movement without pressure, and a Bomb Mode run is a fun test of the skills you have built. Switching modes keeps the game fresh and gives your mind a break from the campaign.

When you eventually reach the Warzone finale, you will have a collection of habits that carried you through six worlds. Trust them.
