VR Games for Couples Who Share One Headset

Only one Quest in the house? Sozo Tower Defense works well for couples taking turns, with easy-to-follow strategy and plenty of backseat advice.

Couple on a sofa, one playing VR and the other laughing and giving advice

One headset, two people: it is a common household. If you are looking for VR games for couples and do not have two Quests, the best candidates are games that are fun to watch and easy to hand over. Sozo Tower Defense is a single-player strategy game, but it suits taking turns surprisingly well.

First, an honest note on multiplayer

Sozo does not describe a co-op or versus mode. Do not buy it expecting two headsets to meet in one battlefield. What it offers couples is something more modest and, for many, more practical: a game where one person plays while the other advises, and then you swap.

Why tower defense is good for turn-taking

It is easy to read from the outside. A watcher can see the path, the towers and the incoming wave without any controls knowledge. The decisions are understandable: "put a Frost Spire at the bend," "something is flying over your head," "save the Meteor."

Levels are natural handover points. The game has 160 levels across 8 realms. Each level has a clear start and finish, so "one level each" is an easy rule.

It rewards a second brain. Different enemy types need different answers: swarms need spread damage, armored brutes need focus, flyers skip the path and need a hands-on response, and bosses bring shields. Two people thinking about it often spot a hole that one misses.

Ways to play as a couple

  1. Level swap. Play one level, hand over the headset, repeat.
  2. Driver and navigator. One wears the headset; the other calls out threats and suggestions. Swap after each realm.
  3. Challenge mode. Choose a hard level, let one of you try it, then see whether the other can do better with the same towers.
  4. Build-off. Plan the same level separately, with one rule: no looking at each other's build. Then compare.
  5. Difficulty handicap. If one of you is stronger, the weaker player can use Casual or Normal while the stronger one tries Hard or above. The game has five modes, from Casual to Ultra.

Practical sharing tips

  • Headset fit. Adjust the strap and lens distance for each person; a blurry image feels like a bad game.
  • Hygiene. Wipe the facial interface between turns.
  • Space. Clear the floor. The player reaches, aims and punches, and the other person should stand clear.
  • Mixed reality. On Quest 3 and 3S, monsters walk across your real floor, which makes spectating funnier. Run Space Setup once and re-run it if you rearrange the room.
  • Progress. Level progress, stars, upgrades and settings are stored locally on the headset, so you share one save. Agree who gets to unlock what.

Keeping it fun, not competitive

Tower defense can spark minor arguments about who wasted the Meteor. Agree on a rule in advance: whoever is playing makes the final call. Treat backseat suggestions as optional.

If you like it

The Sozo Tower Defense page lists everything in the game, and the store listing shows availability for your region. The game runs on Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3S.

Make the spectator seat fun

The person on the sofa can have a job too. Give them a notebook and ask them to record which enemy types leaked through, or let them choose the tower for the next level. Rotating roles keeps the evening from feeling like one person plays while the other waits, and it gives you a shared story to talk about afterward, such as the Meteor that saved a run or the flyer that nobody saw coming.

FAQ

Can two people play Sozo together at once?

No multiplayer mode is described. It is a single-player game that works well with turn-taking and spectating.

Does a shared headset share progress?

Progress is stored locally on the headset, so everyone using that device shares the same save.

Is it fun to watch?

Tower defense is easy to follow from outside, and in mixed reality the monsters walk across your real floor, which spectators often enjoy.

Do we both need a Quest 3?

No. One supported headset is enough: Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 or Quest 3S.
