What Is HAUNTED: Are You Alone? A Plain-English Overview
What is HAUNTED: Are You Alone? A clear overview of the Quest mixed reality horror game: chapters, weapons, secrets, headsets and the content warning.

If you have only seen the name in a store list, here is the short version: HAUNTED: Are You Alone? is a mixed reality horror game for Meta Quest, made by ThreeFlavors. Instead of dropping you into a spooky mansion, it uses your headset's view of your real room and turns that room into the nightmare. This overview covers what the game is, what you do in it, which headsets run it and who it is (and is not) for.
The idea in one paragraph
Mixed reality means you see your actual surroundings through the headset while virtual things are added on top. HAUNTED builds its horror on that: arms break through your real walls, skulls crawl out of your real floor and something stands in your real doorway. The game reads your walls, floor and furniture from the Space Setup you ran on the headset, so the layout of the horror depends on your home. That is the whole pitch, and it is the reason the game feels different from a flat-screen scary title.
Structure: chapters and secrets
The game has eight chapters, and each one turns the room into a different nightmare. On top of those there are two secret chapters that you unlock by drawing strange symbols on the shop floor. The developer only says to start with a circle with a dot in the middle; the rest is yours to find. After the story there are three additional game modes for anyone who wants more.
What you actually do
You are not a passive viewer. You swing an axe or a sword at arms coming through the walls, use a flashlight to freeze crawling skulls in its beam, and shoot with pistols, a shotgun and an AK-47 in the graveyard. If the flashlight goes dark, you shake it back to life. Between chapters there is a shop where you upgrade weapons with what you earn.
Not every threat can be cut or shot. Deadly drills follow your eyes and punish you for being slow to look away, a puppy leads you into a claustrophobic cave, and a cursed doll invites you to dance. Then there is the Cursed Nun, who has been waiting in your hallway the whole time, and a Teleporting Witch who is in front of you, then behind you.
Controls and audio
You can play with Touch controllers or with bare hands via hand tracking. Audio is spatial, which means every scrape and whisper comes from a real direction in your room. Headphones or a quiet space make the most of that.
Which headsets run it
Four headsets are listed as compatible: Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3S. The developer says it is at its scariest on Quest 3 and 3S, because colour passthrough makes the horror look like it is happening in your actual home. You run Space Setup once and need a clear play area, since you will swing, duck and turn quickly.
Who it is for
It suits adults who like horror and are curious about what a game can do when it knows where your sofa is. It is not a gentle introduction to spooky games. The official warning lists sudden loud sounds, flashing and darkened light, gore and intense jump scares, and the game is not suitable for children, people who are pregnant, or anyone with epilepsy, heart conditions or anxiety disorders. If you are unsure, our guide on whether HAUNTED is too scary walks through the decision.
Privacy in short
According to the privacy policy, the game does not collect personal data and sends nothing to servers operated by the developer. Your progress, upgrades and settings stay on the headset, and the game does not use your microphone.
Where to get it
HAUNTED is sold through the Meta Horizon Store. The HAUNTED page on this site has the artwork, feature list and support links, and the store page remains the place to check current details before you buy.
