Monsters frozen mid-stride in pale blue light on a fantasy battlefield

Some powers kill. Stasis does something stranger and often more useful: it freezes the battlefield in place for a moment, just long enough to fix your mistakes, as the game puts it. This Stasis power guide is for the player who tends to lose levels in the three seconds when everything goes wrong at once.

What Stasis actually buys you

Time. Not damage, not slowing, but a pause in which you can think and act. In a tower defense game that is normally relentless, a pause is rare and valuable. Think of what you can do with it:

  • Reposition yourself to shoot or punch a leaking flyer.
  • Decide on a power for the next moment.
  • Spot which part of the path is failing.
  • Let your towers keep their aim on a boss while you prepare.

The game doesn't list the exact duration, so learn it by using it and watching.

Stasis as a panic button

A leak is a moment where several things happen together: a flyer reaches the crystal area, a heavy enemy walks past an empty stretch, a tower goes offline. Without a pause, you cannot answer all of them. Stasis lets you answer one at a time.

A practical sequence: cast Stasis, scan the whole path, decide the one thing that matters most, fix it, and leave the rest to your towers.

Stasis as a setup tool

It is not only for emergencies. Because Stasis holds the battlefield, it can prepare another power:

  • Stasis, then Meteor. A frozen clump is an easier target; the thickest part is where you see it. Read the Meteor guide.
  • Stasis, then Overcharge. Get your head straight, then push your towers past their limits for a clean sweep.

Realm situations where Stasis shines

  • Neon Overdrive: monsters fire an EMP on death that knocks out your towers. If several go dark at once, a pause helps you recover.
  • Void Nebula: phasing monsters flicker out of reach right when you aim. A frozen field can give you clean hits with your own aim.
  • Ember Wastes: fire puddles slow your towers; a pause lets you plan around them.
  • Necropolis: the dead rise again, once; use the pause between the first death and the rise to reposition.

What it will not do

Stasis is a moment, not a solution. After it ends, the same wave is still coming. If you cast it and then do nothing useful, you've lost the power. Use it with a plan:

  1. Know what you will do in the pause before you cast.
  2. Keep your hands ready, whether that is hand tracking or Touch controllers.
  3. If your defense is fundamentally too weak for the wave, return to the build, upgrade and try again.

Save it for the right wave

Because powers are limited, avoid casting Stasis out of anxiety on easy waves. A good policy: cast it when you've noticed a real problem you can fix in the pause. Boss waves are an obvious candidate; see our boss guide.

Practice drill

On Casual, deliberately let a wave get slightly out of hand, then use Stasis and fix it. You will learn what you can accomplish in the window. Then move up to Normal and try again.

See the game's overview on the Sozo Tower Defense page.

Stasis versus the other two powers

It helps to compare Stasis with its siblings. Meteor is an offensive power that removes a thick part of the wave. Overcharge amplifies your towers so they deal more in the moment. Stasis does neither; it buys you time. That makes it the right choice when your problem is a mistake, not a lack of damage: a tower in the wrong place, a gap in your coverage or a moment of confusion. If you are losing because your damage is too low, Stasis alone will not save you, but it can give you the seconds to place the tower that will. Knowing that distinction keeps you from spending it on the wrong problem.
