Horror Game for Quest 2 Owners: Does HAUNTED Run on It?

Still on a Quest 2 and want scares? Yes, HAUNTED fully supports it. Here is what to expect, how to set up your room and what Quest 3 adds on top.

Not everyone upgraded. If you are still happily on a Meta Quest 2 and wondering whether a modern mixed-reality scare fest will even run, here is the short answer for your Quest 2 horror game search: yes. HAUNTED: Are You Alone? supports Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3S.

What you get on Quest 2

The game's support page is clear: it is at its scariest on Quest 3 and 3S, whose colour passthrough makes the horror look like it is really in your home. That implies a trade-off, so be realistic. On Quest 2 you still get:

  • The eight chapters and two secret chapters.
  • The three additional game modes.
  • Weapon upgrades in the shop.
  • Spatial audio and jump scares.
  • Touch controllers and hand tracking support.

What changes is how your room looks through the headset, not whether the game exists. I will not claim specific visual comparisons beyond what the developer says.

Getting your room ready

HAUNTED reads your room layout from the headset's Space Setup, so the monsters can break your real walls and stand in your real doorways.

  1. Run Space Setup and include the floor, the walls and large furniture.
  2. Re-run it if you rearranged the room, then restart the game so it loads the new layout.
  3. Light the room well. Good lighting helps tracking.
  4. Clear the play area. You will swing, duck and turn in a hurry.
  5. Keep the boundary on and stay inside it.

Hand tracking on Quest 2

The game supports both Touch controllers and hand tracking. If your hands are not detected, check that hand tracking is enabled in your headset settings and that the room is well lit. If you prefer reliability, use the controllers; they feel more stable for a long swinging session.

What if monsters do not line up with my walls?

That is the most common Space Setup issue. Make sure your layout includes floor, walls and large furniture, re-run Space Setup if the room changed, and restart HAUNTED.

Should you upgrade just for this?

No game alone justifies a new headset. If you are curious, try it on the Quest 2 you have; the developer lists it as supported. If you later move to Quest 3 or 3S, you will get colour passthrough that makes the scares look more like your actual home.

Comfort and safety

Owning an older headset changes nothing about the warning: expect sudden loud sounds, flashing and darkened light, gore and intense jump scares. Children, pregnant people and anyone with epilepsy, heart conditions or anxiety disorders should not play. Pull the headset off whenever you feel unwell.

Where to get it

The Meta Horizon Store page has the current details for your region.

Getting the most from an older headset

With a Quest 2, comfort and lighting matter. Keep the lenses clean, adjust the strap properly so the headset does not shift during swings, and light your room so tracking stays stable. If hand tracking struggles, switch to controllers rather than fighting it. If you eventually upgrade, you will notice a difference in how your room looks through passthrough, but the chapters, secrets and weapons remain the same game. Start with the headset you have and judge from your own experience.

Before your first launch

Charge the headset fully, wipe the lenses and check that the boundary matches the space you plan to use. Make sure the system software is up to date through the headset's own settings, since the platform handles those updates. If the monsters ever seem offset from your walls, the support advice is to re-run Space Setup and restart the game. None of this takes long, and it saves you from troubleshooting in the middle of a scare, when you least want to be pulling off the headset.

FAQ

Yes. It runs on Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3S.

Is it as scary on Quest 2 as on Quest 3?

Colour passthrough is why the developer calls Quest 3 and 3S the scariest way to play, but Quest 2 owners still get the same game and the same chapters.

The game supports hand tracking and Touch controllers; enable hand tracking in your headset settings.

My flashlight went dark. Is it broken?
