Small red flag on a block with a blue tank approaching across a table battlefield

In Capture the Flag, the goal changes. The store page puts it simply: capture and defend the enemy flag. That means a level you can lose without being destroyed, and one you can win without clearing the field. This guide to Tank Avenger Capture the Flag gives you plans for both sides of the job.

Think in two jobs

Every Capture the Flag fight has two jobs: get the enemy flag, and keep control of yours or at least the area around it. Beginners do only the first, rush forward, and get hit from behind. A better plan is to decide, at the start of each level, which job comes first.

We do not have details about flag rules beyond "capture and defend the enemy flag", so we'll keep our advice general. Treat the exact rules as something to confirm in play.

Attacking: scout, then commit

  1. Scout the route. Identify which blocks give cover between you and the flag.
  2. Clear the guards first. Enemies near the flag are the ones most likely to hit you in the back. Thin them from distance.
  3. Choose your moment. When the path is as clear as it will be, go. Hesitating in the middle is the worst place to be.
  4. Plan your way out. Capturing is only half the job. Know where you will retreat to.

A Speed Boost can make the run shorter, and a Shield can save you if the way is dangerous. Our Shield and Speed Boost guide has more.

Defending: control the approaches

Defence is about restricting how an enemy can approach. Look at the blocks around the flag and identify the routes in. Then:

  • Position where you can see two or more approaches.
  • Keep a block between you and the main sightline.
  • Use area weapons like the Bomb Thrower to discourage approaches.

Don't hover over the flag itself. Staying close makes you a target and removes your ability to react.

Use the room

Because the arena is in your real room, you can walk around it to see the flag's surroundings from the enemy's viewpoint. Check lanes you cannot see from your usual spot. Keep the area clear while you do.

Loadout ideas

  • Attacking: a fast, flexible weapon like the Fast Gun, plus movement abilities.
  • Defending: explosives and heavy shots, such as the Bomb Thrower and Big Gun, to hold ground.
  • Balanced: the Normal Gun with a Shield.

See our Bomb Thrower guide and Fast Gun guide.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Running in without scouting.
  • Staying too close to your own flag.
  • Forgetting the return path.
  • Treating it like Deathmatch. Kills help, but the flag decides the outcome.

A quick plan

  1. Scout the field and find cover routes.
  2. Weaken the guards.
  3. Commit to a fast, protected run.
  4. Retreat along a pre-planned route.
  5. Defend by controlling approaches, not by hugging the flag.

Rehearse the route without fighting

Try an early attempt where you ignore winning and simply walk your planned route to the flag and back, using cover wherever possible. Notice which blocks are safe, which corners are blind and where you would be exposed. On the next attempt you will know the route by heart and can spend your attention on enemies. Since the arena sits in your room, you can also walk around the real space to see the flag area from the enemy's side, as long as your play area is clear.
