Small glowing red safe beside a miniature headset guarded by laser beams

You have worked through several worlds, collected best scores and now your headset is full. Before you delete anything, you want to know where Laser Thief save progress lives. The answer from the developers is clear, and it has consequences you should know before pressing uninstall.

Where your progress is stored

According to the support FAQ and the privacy policy, your unlocked worlds, levels and best scores (plus settings) are stored locally on your headset. They are not uploaded to the developers, and the game has no account system for cloud saves.

So the game's own saves live on the device you play on.

What uninstalling does

The support FAQ states: uninstalling the game removes them. If you remove Laser Thief from your headset, your local progress goes with it. So if you plan to free up storage:

  • Consider whether you might want to continue later.
  • Remove other apps first if you need space.
  • Don't uninstall as a quick fix for a glitch until you have tried the easier ones, such as restarting the game or re-running room setup. See lasers not lining up.

Device backups

The privacy policy adds a nuance: your headset platform may include this data in its own device backups according to its privacy policy. That is a platform feature, not something the game controls. Check your headset's settings and Meta's documentation to see what is backed up and how restoring works. We can't promise your progress will be recovered that way.

What about a new headset?

Because saves are local, moving to a new headset may not bring your progress with you unless the platform's backup or transfer features handle it. Check Meta's guidance before you sell or reset a headset, and don't assume.

Do my room scans save with the game?

No. Room setup belongs to the headset. The game does not record, store or transmit your room layout or passthrough images, as covered in Laser Thief privacy explained. If you play in a new room, run Space Setup again.

Tips to protect your progress

  1. Don't uninstall casually. Manage storage by removing things you've finished with.
  2. Keep the headset updated so the platform's own services work properly.
  3. Check backup settings in your headset and Meta account.
  4. Play on one headset if progress matters to you.
  5. Contact support with questions. The support page has an email address.

Does the game need an internet connection?

The game page and privacy policy don't describe online features beyond platform services used to verify ownership and process purchases. Check the store listing if you need specifics.

If you want to start over

Uninstalling and reinstalling removes your local saves, so it effectively resets progress. Only do this if you are sure.

Purchases and reinstalling

Purchases are tied to your Meta account via the store, so reinstalling an owned game is possible, though your progress will not come back with it. See our refund guide for purchase questions.

Freeing up headset storage without losing your place

Running out of space is the most common reason people consider uninstalling. Before you touch Laser Thief, open your headset's storage view and look at what is actually large. Video recordings, screenshots and old demos often take more room than a game you are still working through. Clearing those costs you nothing, while removing the game costs you your unlocked worlds and best scores.

If you do have to remove something you may want back, make a note first of the world you reached and any best scores you care about. The game will not restore them for you, but a simple note makes it easier to decide where to resume after a reinstall, and gives you a personal target to beat the second time around.
