Prism Laser Tower Guide: Melting Tough Monsters in Sozo

Prism Laser tower guide for Sozo Tower Defense: when to invest in focused energy beams, how to protect them and which tough enemies they are built for.

A prism tower firing a cyan laser beam at an armored golem

Every tower defense game has a moment where the cheap towers stop working. The wave brings something slow, heavy and stubborn, and your arrows might as well be thrown pebbles. In Sozo Tower Defense, the Prism Laser is the tower for that moment: focused energy beams that melt even the toughest monsters. This Prism Laser tower guide shows how to build around it.

What "focused" means for you

A focused beam is about concentrated damage on one enemy at a time. That is different from the Cannon, which spreads explosions over groups, or the Tesla Coil, which shocks whatever wanders in. The Prism Laser is for the enemy you must kill, rather than the crowd you want to thin.

That points to three kinds of targets:

  • Armored brutes. The game calls them slow, tanky and hard to crack, and says to focus your fire.
  • Giant bosses. The Kraken, the Lich King and others, with shields included.
  • Armored machines in Clockwork Citadel, which shrug off weak hits. The game says to bring the heavy towers, and the Prism Laser is one of them in spirit.

Placement

Because you want it to work on tough enemies for as long as possible, give it a long view of the path. If it can focus a heavy enemy for the entire time it walks through your defense, it has time to do what it is for. Put it where it will see the enemy before the enemy reaches the other towers, and where it keeps seeing it.

Do not tuck it far behind everything if its range does not reach the path, and do not put it in the splash zone of a death effect.

Protecting it

Several realms punish towers that stand where enemies die:

  • Ember Wastes: fire puddles slow your towers.
  • Frostbite Reach: dying monsters burst into frost and chill nearby towers.
  • Neon Overdrive: an EMP on death knocks out your towers.

A high-value tower like the Prism Laser deserves a bit of distance from those points. Put cheap towers near the front where enemies die and keep the beam tower slightly back, with a view.

The upgrade case

Every tower has three tiers. Putting your upgrades into one strong Prism Laser is often better than spreading them over several towers, because tough enemies punish thin damage. Use our upgrade priority guide to think about when to invest here versus elsewhere.

Supporting it

A heavy hitter works best when it has time:

  1. Frost Spire slows the target, extending the beam's time on it.
  2. Stasis freezes the battlefield for a moment, which a beam can use to keep working on a boss.
  3. Overcharge pushes towers past their limits for a clean sweep.

Meanwhile let the Ballista and Cannon handle the lighter monsters so the Prism Laser is not distracted by trash.

When not to bother

If a level is all fast, weak swarms, focused beams are not ideal; spread your damage with area towers instead. If flyers are the issue, build anti-air. The Prism Laser is a specialist; use it when the wave contains something truly tough.

A boss-ready example

For a boss level, aim for: one or two upgraded Prism Lasers with a good view, a Frost Spire in front of them, a Ballista or two for escorts, anti-air if flyers are involved, and Stasis ready. Read more in our boss strategy guide.
